Hough, AR - Carroll County
History of Hough
The historic community of Hough, located on HWY 62 east of Green Forest, was originally known as "Hottentot". It was well known in the county for its apple orchards. The Hottentot Post Office was first established on October 20, 1890, with Nelson L. Lawson serving as the first postmaster. On January 28, 1899, the name was changed to "Hough" (sometimes spelled "Hugh") after Maggie Hughes became the postmaster. The Hough Post Office remained in operation until April 6, 1906, when mail service was transferred to Green Forest.
